Privacy Policy for Float Video Player

This application, Float Video Player (com.floatvideo.free), is developed by Nguyen Minh Thuan (NetSoftTouch) as an independent personal project. This Service is provided at no cost as an ad-supported application and is intended for use "AS IS".
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app and its third-party components collect, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to the version of Float Video Player distributed through Google Play.
1. Information Collection and Use
Float Video Player does not require user registration or account creation. The developer operates no server, no user database and no analytics backend of their own, and does not collect, store or sell personally identifiable information such as your name, email address or postal address.
A. Data Collected Automatically by Third-Party SDKs
To display advertisements, obtain remote configuration, report crashes and measure basic performance, the app integrates standard Google SDKs that may collect technical and pseudonymous information:
- Device Information: Device model and manufacturer, operating system version, screen resolution, system language and region.
- Identifiers: Google Advertising ID (AdID), a Firebase installation/app-instance identifier, and — where Google Play provides it — the Play install referrer.
- Network & Approximate Location: IP address and the coarse, country- or city-level location Google derives from it; network connection type (Wi-Fi, mobile).
- Usage & Diagnostics Data: App opens, session duration, screens viewed, crash reports and stack traces, and ad impression/click events. The developer has not added any custom event tracking; only the automatic collection performed by the Google SDKs listed below takes place.
B. Data Stored Only on Your Device
The following is created by the app and kept in the app's private storage on your phone. It is never uploaded, and the developer has no access to it:
- Titles, file paths, durations and other metadata of the media files found on your device, held in a local database so the library loads quickly.
- Playlists, play history, recently played items and the last playback position of each file.
- Your preferences: sort order, theme, equalizer settings, playback speed, floating-window size and position, file browser options, and your ad consent choice.
All of this is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
C. Third-Party Service Providers
The app includes the following Google services. Please review their privacy policies:
No other advertising network, analytics provider, attribution SDK or data broker is present in the app.
D. What the App Does Not Collect
- It does not upload, copy, scan the contents of, or transmit your video, audio, image or document files to the developer or to any online service. Media is decoded and played on your device. The only exception is the Cast feature: when you choose a TV or Chromecast device yourself, the file you are playing is streamed directly to that device over your local Wi-Fi network, and nowhere else.
- It does not access your contacts, calendar, SMS, call logs, clipboard, camera or microphone, and requests no permission that would allow it to.
- It does not collect GPS or other precise location data.
- It does not enumerate or report the apps installed on your device. It checks for one package, the Huawei AppGallery (
com.huawei.appmarket), only to know where to send you for an update. The Google Mobile Ads SDK additionally asks Android which app can handle a web link, a phone number, a text message or a calendar entry, so that tapping an ad opens the right app; the answers are used to open that app and are not collected by the developer.
- The Google Play build cannot install, update or distribute software outside Google Play. When an update is available the button in the app always opens the app's Google Play listing.
2. Device Permissions Used
Float Video Player requests device permissions solely to provide its media player features. Permissions marked (automatic) are declared by the Google libraries the app is built with rather than requested from you directly; Android grants them at install time and they do not produce a prompt.
- Media Access (
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED): Used strictly to find, read and play the video and audio files stored on your device. On Android 13 and later you may grant access to selected items only, and the app works with that partial grant.
- Legacy Storage (
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 12L and older only): The same purpose on older Android versions, which have no per-media-type permission. These are declared with maxSdkVersion="32" and are not requested on newer devices.
- Display Over Other Apps (
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Required to show the floating video window on top of other applications. It is always started by you and always dismissible.
- Foreground Service (
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK): Required to keep audio and floating video playback running while the app is in the background.
- Wi-Fi Multicast (
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE): Used only while you look for a Cast device, so the app can discover TVs and Chromecast devices on your local network. It does not give access to your location or to other devices' data.
- Post Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used solely to display media playback controls (play, pause, next, previous) in your notification shade.
- Wake Lock (
WAKE_LOCK) (automatic): Keeps the screen or CPU awake during playback so video does not stop when the display would normally time out.
- Internet and Network State (
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) (automatic): Used to load advertisements, fetch remote configuration and send crash reports. Your media files are not sent over this connection.
- Advertising ID (
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID): Used by Google's advertising services to deliver personalized or non-personalized ads according to your consent choice. You can reset or delete this identifier at any time in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
- Privacy Sandbox (
ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS) and Install Referrer (automatic): Declared by the Google Mobile Ads SDK so it can use Android's Privacy Sandbox advertising APIs and measure ad attribution.
3. Advertising, Analytics and User Consent
- Advertising: Google AdMob is the only advertising network in the app. Ads are requested only after the consent step below has been resolved.
- EEA/UK Users (GDPR / ePrivacy): In compliance with Google's EU User Consent Policy, the app uses Google's certified User Messaging Platform (UMP) Consent Management Platform. Users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked on first launch to grant or refuse consent for personalized advertising, and no advertising SDK is initialized and no ad is requested before that form has been answered. You can review, change or withdraw your choice at any time through Settings → Ad Privacy Settings inside the app. Where consent is the legal basis, withdrawing it is as easy as giving it and has effect for the future.
- Analytics, crash reporting and remote configuration: Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config are used to keep the app stable and working correctly, which the developer relies on as a legitimate interest under GDPR Article 6(1)(f). They do not receive your media files or their contents. You can turn off usage analytics and crash reporting at any time with the Settings → Usage & crash reporting switch inside the app; once it is off, Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics stop collecting data from your device.
- Google Consent Mode: Firebase Analytics starts with advertising-related signals (ad storage, ad user data and ad personalization) denied by default. They are enabled only after the consent step has been resolved and, for users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, only for the purposes you actually agreed to in the consent form. Choosing “Do not consent” or closing the form keeps them denied.
- California & US State Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA and comparable state laws): The developer does not sell personal information for money. Google AdMob may, however, use your Advertising ID, IP address and ad interaction data to show personalized ads, which some US state laws treat as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising or as targeted advertising. You can opt out at any time by deleting or resetting your Advertising ID, or by turning on “Opt out of Ads Personalization”, in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads; ads will then be non-personalized.
4. International Data Transfers
The Google services listed in section 1(C) are operated by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited and may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Those transfers are made under Google's own safeguards, principally the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Details are set out in the Google privacy policies linked above.
5. Your Privacy Rights
Subject to your local law, you have the right to request access to the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw a consent you have given, and to data portability. Because the app holds no account and the developer operates no server, the practical routes are:
- Data on your device: clear it yourself at any time through Android Settings → Apps → Float Video Player → Storage → Clear data, or by uninstalling the app.
- Advertising identifier: reset or delete it in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, and change your consent choice in the app's Ad Privacy Settings.
- Data held by Google: exercise your rights directly with Google using the links in section 1(C), or contact the developer at the address in section 10 and your request will be forwarded.
If you are in the EEA or the UK and believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Float Video Player is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided such information, please contact the developer and it will be deleted.
7. Data Retention and Security
- Retention: Diagnostic and analytics data is retained in aggregated or pseudonymized form according to the retention policies of Google Analytics for Firebase and Crashlytics. Data stored on your device is kept until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
- Security in transit: All connections the app makes to Google's advertising, configuration and diagnostic endpoints, and to the developer's own website, are restricted to HTTPS by the app's network security configuration.
- Deletion requests: Because there is no user account, there is no personal account database to delete. For any inquiry about data deletion or third-party identifier removal, please use the contact address in section 10.
8. Open Source Licenses & Compliance
Float Video Player is an independent media player developed as a personal project. It uses LibVLC for Android, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 (LGPLv2.1). A full list of the open source components and their licences is available inside the app under Settings → Open Source Licenses.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. You are advised to review this page occasionally. Continued use of the Service following posted changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
