Privacy Policy
How Stillscribe handles your recordings, transcripts and other information.
Effective date: October 19, 2026 · Application: Stillscribe for iPhone · Developer: NetSoftTouch
This Privacy Policy explains how Stillscribe (“the App”), provided by NetSoftTouch (“we”, “us” or “our”), handles information when you use it. It applies to the App on iPhone and to its extensions: the Share extension and the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island Live Activity.
Summary: Stillscribe records, transcribes and summarizes entirely on your iPhone. It has no user accounts and no servers of ours, and it contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Your audio, transcripts, summaries and notes are stored only on your device. We do not collect, receive, sell or share any personal data. On the App Store, the App’s privacy label is “Data Not Collected”.
1. Information we do not collect
We do not collect any information from the App. In particular:
- Audio recordings: recordings you make, and audio or video files you import or share into the App, are saved in the App’s private storage on your iPhone and are never uploaded by us.
- Transcripts: speech is turned into text on the device by Apple’s on-device speech recognition (the SpeechAnalyzer framework). The audio is not sent to a cloud speech service.
- AI summaries: summaries, key points, decisions and action items are generated on the device by Apple Intelligence through Apple’s Foundation Models framework, which runs the language model on your iPhone. Your transcript is not sent to us, to Apple’s servers or to any AI provider for this.
- Notes and settings: titles, highlights, summary templates you create, search terms and settings stay on your device.
- Accounts: the App has no sign-up or login and never asks for your name, email address, phone number or password.
- Analytics, advertising and tracking: the App contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- Location, contacts and photos: the App does not access them.
2. Data stored on your device
To work, the App keeps the following on your iPhone, in storage that iOS protects from other apps:
| Data | Purpose |
| Audio files | The original recording, kept so you can listen again. Recordings are written to a file first so a recording is never lost. |
| Transcripts and summaries | To show, search and export your notes. |
| Templates, highlights, settings | To remember your choices. |
| Free summary count | To count the free plan’s 3 summaries every 7 days. It is a count and dates only. |
| Crash and hang reports | Technical reports that iOS provides through Apple’s MetricKit (stack traces, app and iOS version, device model). They contain no audio or text, are kept on the device (up to 20), and are sent only if you choose to, as described in Section 4. |
We have no access to any of this data. It stays on the device until you delete it.
3. Permissions
The App asks for these iOS permissions only when you use the feature that needs them. You can change each one at any time in iOS Settings → Stillscribe or Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Microphone: to record audio. Audio is recorded to a file on your iPhone and transcribed there. When you start a recording, the App keeps recording in the background (for example with the screen locked) until you stop it, and iOS shows that the microphone is in use.
- Speech Recognition: to turn recordings into text on the device.
- Reminders (optional): only when you choose to send action items to Reminders. The App adds the items you confirm and does not read or upload your other reminders.
- Face ID (optional): only if you turn on the App lock. Face ID is handled by iOS; the App only receives a yes or no answer and never has access to your face data.
- Notifications (optional): if you start the free trial of Pro Yearly, the App asks to send one local reminder a day before the trial ends. It is scheduled on your iPhone; no notification server is involved.
Files you import are chosen through the iOS file picker or the iOS Share sheet. The App only receives the files you pick or share.
4. When information leaves your device
The App itself does not send your data anywhere. Information leaves your iPhone only in these cases, each of which you start or control:
- Exporting and sharing: when you export a note (PDF, Markdown, plain text or SRT) or share it, it goes to the app or person you choose through the iOS Share sheet. What happens next is governed by that app or service.
- Diagnostic reports: if you tap Send diagnostic report in Settings, an email to us (or a Share sheet) opens with the crash reports attached. You can see everything before you send it, and nothing is sent unless you tap Send. We use these reports only to find and fix bugs, and delete them when they are no longer needed for that.
- Emails to us: if you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to answer you.
- Backups: if you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, iOS may include the App’s data in that backup. Backups are managed by Apple and by you under your Apple Account, and we cannot access them.
- Spotlight: to let you find recordings from iPhone search, the App adds titles and transcript text to the iOS Spotlight index on your device. This index is stored on your iPhone. When the App lock is on, recordings are not shown in iPhone search.
5. Apple services
The App relies on features of iOS that Apple provides. When they need to contact Apple, they are operated by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy, not by us:
- In-app purchases: purchases and subscriptions of Stillscribe Pro are processed by the App Store. We never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. The App receives only the purchase status from StoreKit so it can unlock Pro.
- Speech and Apple Intelligence models: iOS may download language models for on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence from Apple. These downloads do not contain your recordings or text.
- Crash reports: if you have turned on Share iPhone Analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may share crash data with developers under Apple’s own terms. You control this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
6. Recording other people
Stillscribe is a tool for recording conversations you are part of or have the right to record. Laws in many places, including several U.S. states, require the consent of everyone being recorded. You are responsible for telling people and getting any consent the law requires. See the Terms of Use.
7. Data retention and deletion
- A recording: delete it in the App. Its audio file, transcript, summary and Spotlight entry are removed from your iPhone.
- Crash reports: tap Delete reports in the App’s Settings.
- Everything: deleting the App removes all of its data from your iPhone. Copies inside earlier iPhone backups are kept by iOS or iCloud until those backups are deleted.
- Emails and diagnostic reports you sent us: email us and we will delete them.
Because we do not hold your recordings or any account, we cannot restore deleted recordings. Please export anything you want to keep.
8. Security
Your data is stored in the App’s private container, which iOS isolates from other apps and encrypts with Data Protection when your iPhone is locked with a passcode. You can add a Face ID lock in the App’s Settings. Because your content never reaches a server of ours, there is no copy of it that could be exposed in a breach on our side.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) give you rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. Since we do not collect personal information through the App, your data is on your device, where you can view, export and delete it at any time. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. For any information you sent us by email, contact us to exercise these rights, and we will respond within the time the law requires.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this Privacy Policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date. If a change would let data leave your device in a new way, we will explain it in the App before it takes effect.
